WHO WE ARE – OUR MISSION AND PURPOSE
St. Mark’s Press is a publishing ministry of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Wichita, Kansas.  Through our work we support the worship life of the Church by providing liturgical, devotional and Christian formation resources.

A SELECTIVE HISTORY OF THE PRESS
In early 1973, Fr. William Bagby, then rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Wichita, Kansas, was discussing the financial plight of the parish with Reg Randall, his senior warden.  There was a great need to raise more money. During this discussion, Fr. Bagby remarked that it would be useful to the Episcopal Church to have available a single book containing all of the Sunday Eucharistic Propers.  This was especially true since the adoption of the three-year cycle of lections made it improbable that these lessons and gospels would be included in the upcoming release of the revised Book of Common Prayer. After a financial analysis and vestry approval, with a certain amount of faith and a certain amount of risk, the Episcopal Eucharistic Lectionary and St. Mark’s Press became a reality.

Forty years later, St. Mark’s Press continues to provide liturgical, devotional and Christian formation resources to the Episcopal Church in the United States and throughout the world.  Now under the leadership of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Wichita, Kansas (a merger of St. Mark’s and St. Matthias’s parishes) The Press, and its product line, has changed over time as the Episcopal Church has changed and as Rectors at St. Mark’s and Good Shepherd have changed.
